The strategic plan of sustainable organic farming development in tidal land should be wisely use and pay attention to all aspects in supporting to the development of agriculture. One of them is contain of heavy metals of irrigation water and its impact to water quality for organic farming. The intertidal zone in South Kalimantan is at the downstream region of the Barito river basin as lowland where all pollutants can enter into the area. if we want to be the tidal land for organic farming, the water quality research is certainly required. The focus is many source contaminants of water for irrigation
in the form of metal or trace element, like the trace (ions) element levels of Pb, Cd, Cr , and the minor (ions) element of Fe ions in waters of A, B, C and D typologies.
- The range concentration of Cd in the Barito River and drains at A, B, C and D typologies both at the spring and neap tides are about 0.0067 ppm – 0.0122 ppm (Figure 1 ). Based on PP RI No. 82/2001, irrigation water standards for Cd Concentration of 0.01 ppm, while Concentration of Cd in the Barito river and drains on D typology exceeded the standard threshold of water quality for irrigation.
- The heavy metal concentrations in the main “Barito” river and drains of A, B, C and D tipologies are Lead (Pb) ranged between <0.002 – 0.0122 ppm, Cadmium (Cd) 0.0067 – 0.0122 ppm, Chromium (Cr) <0.002 – 0.0064 ppm and Iron (Fe) 0.0358 ppm – 9.0807 ppm in both at the high and low water level of tidal on spring and neap tides.
- The limiting factor in heavy metals of water quality for agricultural crops in land C and D typologies are cadmium (Cd) and iron (Fe) elements.
